Where to Mount Fire Extinguisher in Pickup Truck
-
Does the FMCSA have specific locations to mount a fire extinguisher in a cargo van? My future employer requires me to carry one in the can, but I'm not sure where to mount it. I was thinking about mounting it to the passenger side door support beam. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Phat Kat Jw -

I would say, and I am not an expert, where it is quickly and easily available. I am in a Ryder rental and they mount it between the drivers seat and the door, on the floor. The only problem I have with that is my seat belt keeps getting caught in it and some day I will set it off putting on my belt. I do keep unhooking the mounting clip.

Be sure its mounted is the main thing

Most trucks they are mounted on the floor either behind or next to the drivers seat.

yeah thats were ive seen them mounted but i keep unhooking the #### thing with the flipen seat belt. gets kinda annoying. as for dot saying dont think they overly care. u could probably get away with putting it in your side box as well

My company truck has it in the side box. My personal opinion is it should be somewhere between where you are (the drivers seat) and where you want to be if there's a fire (out the door). Best place is beside the drivers seat. Use a wire tie to keep the latch in place.

Wherever you put it, get the decal that reads Fire Extinguisher Inside. Helps with DOT.

mine was beside my seat, until I smacked it with my foot breaking the pin and setting it off. Now it's in my side compartment mounted to the wall.

Passenger side between door and seat keeps it out of the way, easily secured, and still available for inspections and fires.
